CRN 11 is recruiting participants for its Research and Development Committee. All those with expertise and interest in the following are invited to join:

• Writing grants and research applications
• Reviewing members’ draft papers and providing constructive feedback
• Identifying research collaborators, sponsors and placements for members
• Implementing and executing research projects and programs
• Promoting and advertising programs and projects

Note: The Journal of Internal Displacement is home to CRN 11 research scholarship.

NEWS

Internal Displacement – 20 years of Action: In 2016 more than 31 million people were displaced in 125 countries by conflict, violence and disasters. Internal displacement uproots people from their homes, depriving them of their jobs, basic health and security services, and separates them from their families and friends.

UN launches global plan to strengthen protection of internally displaced persons: With multiple crises forcing millions of people away from their homes, United Nations agencies, Governments and partners have launched a set of measures to strengthen protection of internally displaced persons as well as find solutions to address their problems.

IDMC Internal Displacement Update Issue 32 (8 March – 4 April 2018: As many as 40,000 people were displaced internally between 10 and 15 March in Moyale area in Oromia when the Ethiopian army overran the area in a retaliation attack. The aim of the military operation was to find those responsible for attacking a military truck that had passed through the region.

Myanmar state counselor reiterates readiness to receive displaced people fleeing Rakhine conflict: Myanmar State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi has reiterated the government’s readiness to receive back displaced persons fleeing Rakhine conflict to Bangladesh after verification, calling for cooperation with the Bangladesh side to expedite the repatriation process, according to the foreign ministry Tuesday.

Iraq after the Americans: Following the US troop withdrawal, Fault Lines went to assess the state of Iraq after nine years of occupation.
